Jay Jacob Wind has been a loyal NOVA member for more than 20 years, although he shares his love with other clubs too, including DC Road Runners Club, Montgomery County Road Runner, New York Road Runners, Chesapeake Bay Running Club, Potomac Valley Track Club, Marathon Charity Cooperation, Washington Running Club, Tidal Basin Run, and Safety And Health Foundation.

In other words, Jay will join just about any club to take advantage of the member discount on races.

Jay directs more than 40 races a year, including free Tidal Basin Runs at noon on the 3rd Wednesday every month, PVTC's 3 indoor track meets at TJ Center in January and February, SHF's three annual marathons on the C&O Canal Towpath, and numerous races for various charities.

Somehow, Jay finds time to run about 60 miles a week and compete in every race he can find. In just seven days in July, on a Sunday, he ran Tidal Basin Run's Grant-Pierce Indoor Marathon in3:28 -- and then went on to finish 50 kilometers in 4:34, maybe an American M60+ record, but who knows? Then three days later, he finished first over 60 in 21:45 on a hot Wednesday night's DCRRC Bluemont Park 5K. Three more days later, he ran 6:33 for the mile, 44.0 for 200 meters, 1:33 for 400 meters, and 12:52 for 3 kilometers at PVTC's outdoor track meet on Saturday.

As of July, Jay completed 151 marathons and more than 3000 shorter races. "I lost count in 1978," said Jay.

Easy with a smile and quick with a quip, his philosophy is "Somebody's got to win the age group, and it may as well be me."

When he's not running or race-directing, Jay serves as Bob Weiner's chief information officer (see www.weinerpublic.com) and webmaster www.pvtc.org, www.racepacket.com/tidalbasin, andwww.safetyandhealthfoundation.org
